Kõrgrõhupiirkonnas, often translated as a region of high atmospheric pressure, is a meteorological phenomenon characterized by a large area of stable and sinking air. In these zones, atmospheric pressure at sea level is significantly higher than in surrounding areas. This high pressure typically leads to clear skies, calm winds, and generally settled weather conditions.

The sinking air within a high-pressure system compresses and warms as it descends. This warming process inhibits the formation of clouds, as moisture is less likely to condense into water droplets or ice crystals. Consequently, high-pressure systems are often associated with sunny days and minimal precipitation. While they can bring pleasant weather, prolonged periods of high pressure can also lead to heatwaves in the summer and frost in the winter due to the lack of cloud cover to trap heat.

The movement of high-pressure systems is influenced by larger atmospheric circulation patterns. They generally move from west to east in the mid-latitudes, although their speed and trajectory can vary. When a high-pressure system dominates a region, it can suppress the development of storms and other weather disturbances that are typically associated with low-pressure areas. These regions are a fundamental component of global weather patterns and play a crucial role in forecasting weather.
