Kékbaktériumok, commonly known as cyanobacteria, are a phylum of bacteria that obtain energy through photosynthesis. They are prokaryotic organisms, meaning their cells lack a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. Cyanobacteria are found in a wide variety of habitats, including oceans, freshwater, and soil, and play a crucial role in many ecosystems.

One of the most significant contributions of cyanobacteria is their role in oxygenating the Earth's atmosphere during the Precambrian era. While often beneficial, some cyanobacteria can proliferate rapidly under favorable conditions, leading to harmful algal blooms (HABs). These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to aquatic life, livestock, and humans. Monitoring and managing HABs is an important aspect of environmental protection in many regions. The study of cyanobacteria continues to reveal their ecological importance and potential applications in biotechnology and medicine.
