Jäähdytyskondensaatio refers to the process where water vapor in the air turns into liquid water on a cold surface. This phenomenon is common in many everyday situations and industrial processes. The key requirement for jäähdytyskondensaatio is that the temperature of the surface must be at or below the dew point of the surrounding air. The dew point is the temperature at which the air becomes saturated with water vapor and condensation begins.

In buildings, jäähdytyskondensaatio can occur on cold walls, windows, or pipes, especially during winter months when indoor air is warm and humid, and exterior surfaces are cold. This can lead to moisture buildup, which can promote mold growth and damage building materials. Proper insulation and ventilation are crucial to prevent excessive condensation.

The cold surface cools the air immediately next to it to its dew point, causing water vapor from the air to condense onto it in the form of small droplets.
