Jäykkähaarukat

Jäykkähaarukat, which translates to rigid forks, are bicycle forks that do not feature any suspension mechanism. Unlike suspension forks that incorporate springs and dampers to absorb impacts from uneven terrain, rigid forks are constructed from a single, solid piece of material, typically steel, aluminum, or carbon fiber. This lack of moving parts contributes to their simplicity, lighter weight, and lower maintenance requirements compared to their suspended counterparts.

The primary advantage of a rigid fork is its efficiency and direct power transfer. Because there is no energy absorption by suspension, pedaling forces are transmitted directly to the wheel, making them ideal for smooth surfaces, road cycling, or situations where maximum pedaling efficiency is desired. They are also generally more affordable to manufacture and purchase.

However, rigid forks offer no shock absorption. This means that riders will feel the full impact of bumps, roots, and rocks directly through the handlebars. This can lead to a less comfortable ride on rough terrain and can also increase rider fatigue over longer distances or on challenging trails. The reduced vibration damping can also make steering feel more skittish and less controlled on uneven surfaces. Historically, rigid forks were standard on all bicycles before the advent of suspension technology. Today, they are commonly found on entry-level bicycles, fixed-gear bikes, single-speed bikes, and some touring or commuter setups where simplicity and low cost are prioritized.
