Jäsentämätön

Jäsentämätön is a Finnish adjective meaning “unparseable” or “not analyzable into constituents.” It is formed from the verb jäsentää, to parse or to analyze a sequence into syntactic constituents, with the suffix -tön indicating negation or absence.

In linguistics, jäsentämätön describes a linguistic unit—such as a sentence, clause, phrase, or sequence of words—that cannot be readily analyzed into standard syntactic constituents using a given parsing framework. This may occur when the input lacks explicit grammatical markers, contains ellipsis or highly ambiguous structures, or violates the assumptions of the analysis. The label is framework-dependent: a sentence described as jäsentämätön under one grammar might be jäsentettävä under another, or become parseable with additional punctuation or disambiguating information.

The term is primarily used in Finnish-language linguistic literature, computational linguistics, and language-teaching contexts to discuss limits of parsing and data that resist conventional analysis. It is not a blanket judgment about correctness or grammaticality in everyday Finnish; rather, it signals that a particular analysis does not yield a stable or unique constituent structure within the considered theory.
