Jännitteensäätäjät, also known as voltage regulators, are electronic components that automatically maintain a constant output voltage. They are crucial in many electronic devices to protect sensitive components from fluctuations in the input voltage. These devices can be found in everything from simple battery-powered gadgets to complex power supplies for computers and industrial equipment.

There are several types of voltage regulators. Linear regulators are simple and produce very little noise, but they can be inefficient as they dissipate excess voltage as heat. Switching regulators, on the other hand, are much more efficient but can introduce electrical noise. Common types of linear regulators include Zener diodes, which use a Zener diode to create a reference voltage, and three-terminal regulators, which are integrated circuits with input, output, and ground pins. Switching regulators come in various topologies such as buck (step-down), boost (step-up), and buck-boost converters.

Without effective voltage regulation, devices could malfunction, perform erratically, or suffer permanent damage.
