Jio

Jio, formally Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, is an Indian telecommunications company that operates under the brand Jio. It is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries and was launched in 2016 with the aim of providing nationwide 4G LTE coverage. Jio's entry significantly changed the Indian telecom market by offering affordable data and simple pricing plans, leading to rapid growth in data consumption and a shift toward digital services.

The company operates a large 4G LTE mobile network and offers prepaid and postpaid wireless services, voice over LTE, and other data-centric plans. It also provides fixed-line broadband via JioFiber and a suite of digital applications, including streaming services and on-demand content, as part of its ecosystem. Jio has built a widespread nationwide fiber and data center infrastructure to support mobile and fixed-line services.

Jio Platforms, a subsidiary formed to consolidate and monetize the company's digital assets, has attracted investments from global technology firms and oversees a growing portfolio of apps and services. This ecosystem includes entertainment, communications, payments, cloud, and other digital offerings.

5G services were piloted in selected cities beginning in 2022, with broader rollout planned as infrastructure and spectrum allocation allow; Jio continues to expand 5G across the country alongside ongoing 4G operations.
