Jinja

Jinja may refer to more than one thing. In geography, it is a town in northern Algeria; in software, it is a templating language used to generate text by combining templates with data in Python applications.

Jinja, commonly known as Jinja2, is a templating language for Python. It was developed by Armin Ronacher in 2008 as part of the Pallets project and is the successor to an earlier version. The language provides a template syntax for dynamic text generation, including features such as variables, control structures, and template inheritance. Key elements include blocks, macros, and filters, as well as tests and extensions for customization. Autoescaping helps prevent HTML injection, and templates can be rendered with data supplied from Python code. Jinja templates are usually compiled to Python bytecode for performance and can be loaded from files or strings using different loaders. It is widely used in Python web development, most notably as the default templating engine in the Flask framework, and it can be integrated with other frameworks through adapters. Jinja2 is open source and remains the most commonly used version of the templating engine.
