Jianghuai

Jianghuai, written as Jianghuai or江淮, refers to a geographic and cultural region in eastern China situated between the Yangtze River to the south and the Huai River to the north. In modern terms, the area largely overlaps parts of southern Jiangsu Province and northern Anhui Province, though definitions vary and boundaries are not fixed.

Geography and climate characterize Jianghuai as a low-lying plain with a network of rivers and canals. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters, and the Huai River has historically marked a transition zone that influences weather patterns, agriculture, and settlement. Waterways, including the Grand Canal in parts of the area, have long connected Jianghuai to other regions, supporting trade and irrigation.
