Jetzeit
Jetzeit refers to a period of time when jet aircraft became the dominant mode of air travel. This era is generally considered to have begun in the late 1950s and continued through the 1970s. Prior to jetzeit, air travel was primarily conducted using propeller-driven aircraft, which were slower and less efficient. The introduction of jet engines revolutionized air transportation, leading to faster flight times, increased passenger capacity, and the development of longer-haul routes. Iconic aircraft such as the Boeing 707, the Douglas DC-8, and later the Boeing 747, defined this period. Jetzeit facilitated a significant increase in global tourism and business travel, making the world feel smaller and more accessible. The proliferation of jet aircraft also spurred advancements in airport infrastructure and air traffic control systems. While newer technologies have since emerged, the jetzeit remains a pivotal chapter in the history of aviation, fundamentally transforming how people travel and interact across distances.
