Järjestelmäpeilikamera, known in English as a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), is a type of digital camera that combines the optics and mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital image sensor. The defining characteristic of a DSLR is its use of a reflex mirror system and a pentaprism (or pentamirror) to allow the photographer to view the scene through the lens.

When the photographer looks through the viewfinder, light enters the lens and is reflected by a mirror upwards through a prism, which then directs the image to the viewfinder eyepiece. When the shutter button is pressed, the mirror flips up out of the light path, allowing the light to strike the digital image sensor. This sensor captures the image, which is then processed and stored, typically on a memory card.

DSLRs are known for their interchangeable lenses, allowing photographers to choose from a wide variety of focal lengths and aperture options to suit different shooting situations. They also offer manual control over exposure settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, appealing to enthusiasts and professionals who require greater creative control. The large sensor size in most DSLRs generally leads to better image quality, particularly in low light, and allows for greater depth of field control compared to smaller sensor cameras. Their robust build and advanced features make them a popular choice for a wide range of photographic applications.
