Jägarregemente

Jägarregemente, or Jägarregementet in Swedish, translates to Hunter Regiment and is a historical designation used for light infantry regiments in the Swedish Army. The term reflects a long-standing tradition of woodland warfare, skirmishing, and reconnaissance, in contrast to heavier line forces.

The concept emerged during early modern military reforms in Sweden, as forces experimented with mobile troops trained for rapid movement and forest combat. Over the centuries, several regiments carried the name Jägarregementet, and their organization and exact role evolved with changes in army structure from the 17th through the 19th centuries. In practice, jägarregementen were tasked with reconnaissance, patrols, and hit‑and‑run actions in difficult terrain, complementing heavier units in large campaigns and battles.
