In maritime contexts, jäätorjunta involves measures to keep shipping lanes open during winter. This can include the use of icebreakers, which physically break up ice, or employing ice-resistant ship designs. Another approach is the use of bubblers or agitators in harbors and canals to keep water moving and prevent a solid ice layer from forming. This is particularly important in areas where freezing temperatures can disrupt navigation and port operations.
