Jäähdytysnesteellä

Jäähdytysnesteellä, commonly known as coolant in English, is a fluid used in internal combustion engines and other cooling systems to regulate temperature. Its primary function is to absorb heat from the engine and dissipate it through the radiator, preventing overheating.

The composition of jäähdytysnesteellä typically includes a base fluid, most often ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, mixed with water. Ethylene glycol-based coolants are effective at preventing freezing and boiling, with freezing points as low as -50°C (-58°F) and boiling points significantly higher than water, especially under pressure. Propylene glycol-based coolants offer similar protection but are generally considered less toxic.

In addition to glycols and water, jäähdytysnesteellä contains a package of additives. These additives are crucial for protecting the cooling system components from corrosion and erosion. They include rust inhibitors, anti-foaming agents, pH buffers, and lubricants for the water pump. Over time, these additives deplete, necessitating regular coolant replacement.

The color of jäähdytysnesteellä can vary depending on the manufacturer and the type of additives used. Common colors include green, blue, pink, red, and orange. It is important not to mix different types of coolants, as this can lead to chemical reactions that reduce their effectiveness and potentially damage the cooling system.
