Jäähdytyskoneisto, often translated as refrigeration system or cooling machine, is a device designed to lower and maintain the temperature of a space or substance below the ambient temperature. These systems are fundamental to many aspects of modern life, from preserving food and medicine to enabling comfortable living and working environments.

The most common type of jäähdytyskoneisto operates on the principle of a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle. This cycle involves four main components: a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, and an evaporator. The refrigerant, a working fluid, circulates through these components. This gas then returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats.
