Izolans

Izolans are a fictional indigenous people described in speculative fiction and world-building concepts as the inhabitants of the Izol Archipelago, a cluster of tropical islands in the imaginary region of Talaris. The term Izolan is their self-designation, reflecting a close maritime connection to the sea that defines daily life.

The archipelago comprises about 180 islands with varied coastlines, reefs, and mangroves. The main islands Aris, Numa, and Vela host the largest settlements. The population is roughly 70,000, concentrated in coastal villages and small towns where fishing and trade are central.

The Izolan language forms the core of their identity. It is classified within a hypothetical Oiran-Aquan language family and has its own syllabary, supplemented by a Latin script for education and administration. Most Izolans are bilingual, using a regional trade language in marketplaces.

In modern times, the Izol Archipelago forms a constituent entity within a regional federation that guarantees cultural rights and a degree of self-government, balanced with inter-island cooperation.
