Iténez

Iténez is a province in eastern Bolivia, located in the Santa Cruz Department. It is bordered by the provinces of Chiquitos to the south and east, and by the Beni Department to the west and north. The province's eastern border largely follows the Paraguay River. The capital of Iténez is Magdalena.

The province is characterized by its extensive savannas and wetlands, which are part of the Pantanal ecosystem, one of the largest tropical wetlands in the world. The terrain is generally flat, with numerous rivers, lakes, and seasonally flooded areas. The climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons.

The economy of Iténez is primarily based on cattle ranching and agriculture, with crops like rice and corn being cultivated. Fishing is also a significant activity due to the abundance of water bodies. The province's natural resources and biodiversity attract some ecotourism, although infrastructure remains limited.

Historically, the region was inhabited by indigenous peoples for centuries before Spanish colonization. The area later saw periods of settlement and development related to resource extraction and agricultural expansion. Transportation within the province is challenging, with many areas accessible primarily by river or air.
