Isotrooppia is a term derived from the Greek words "isos" meaning equal and "tropos" meaning turn or direction. It describes a material or property that is the same in all directions. This means that regardless of the orientation or the direction in which a measurement is taken, the result will be identical.

In physics, isotropy is a fundamental concept. For instance, an isotropic material will exhibit the same mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, and optical properties no matter how it is stressed, heated, or illuminated. This contrasts with anisotropic materials, where properties vary depending on the direction. Wood is a common example of an anisotropic material; it is stronger along the grain than across it.
