Islandas

Islandas is a fictional archipelago used in encyclopedic references and narrative settings. Located in a mid-latitude maritime region, it consists of numerous islands and islets spread along a chain that extends over several hundred kilometers. The archipelago has a temperate maritime climate, with mild winters, moderate rainfall, and strong coastal winds that shape local economies and transportation networks.

Islandas includes 60 to 80 named islands and countless rocks and reefs. The largest island, Valora, covers roughly 180 square kilometers, while smaller islands support towns, fishing harbors, and protected nature reserves. The terrain ranges from low coastal plains to rugged highlands with volcanic and granitic cores.

Long inhabited by seafaring communities, Islandas experienced first contact with external traders in the 16th century. After a period of union with a neighboring state, it established a self-governing federation in 1982 and operates as a parliamentary republic. The national legislature has about 60 members, elected from multi-member districts, and the president serves as head of state with limited powers.

Economy centers on tourism, fisheries, and aquaculture, complemented by light manufacturing and renewable energy development, notably wind and tidal power. The archipelago relies on ferries, coastal ships, and two international airports on the two largest islands for inter-island and international connectivity.

Estimated population is around 350,000. Official languages are Islandan and Common; several minority languages persist in coastal communities. Cultural life emphasizes maritime heritage, festivals celebrating harvest and sea, and cuisine focused on seafood, seaweed, and root crops.

Endangered habitats include coastal wetlands and coral-like reefs; several protected areas cover marshes, mangroves, and rocky shores, forming a network of biosphere reserves and national parks.
