Usage and style: Given its nonstandard status, irradi should be avoided in formal writing to prevent ambiguity. Writers are advised to choose irradiate, irradiation, irradiated, or irradiance depending on whether they refer to the action, the process, or the resulting quantity. If a text requires a concise or field-specific shorthand, it should be clearly defined for readers at first use.

Context in science and safety: When discussing radiation-related topics—such as sterilization, food safety, medical treatment, or materials testing—the standard terminology and associated quantitative measures are crucial. Dose is typically described in gray (Gy) or sieverts (Sv) for dose equivalent, and exposure context should follow appropriate regulatory guidelines.
