Irpin

Irpin is a city in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, located in the northwestern outskirts of Kyiv, on the banks of the Irpin River, about 20–25 kilometers from Kyiv’s city center. It is part of the Kyiv metropolitan area and serves as the administrative center of Irpin urban hromada within Kyiv Oblast. The city comprises residential neighborhoods, green spaces, and light industry, and functions as a commuter suburb for Kyiv.

As of the early 2020s, the population is around 60,000 people. The area has a history as a rural settlement before rapid development as a suburban city in the postwar period, tied to the expansion of Kyiv’s outskirts.

In 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Irpin experienced significant destruction from military action and shelling, with many homes damaged or destroyed and residents displaced. After Ukrainian forces regained control of the area, humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts began.

Irpin is connected to Kyiv by road and rail, making it an integral part of the Kyiv metropolitan region. Local government administers the city through the Irpin urban community (hromada), managing municipal services, infrastructure, and social programs. Notable features include its location along the Irpin River and surrounding suburban landscapes, with a mix of residential areas, parks, and commerce.
