Irisnevi

Irisnevi is a term used to describe a nevus, or mole, located within the iris of the eye. The iris is the colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil. Iris nevi are generally benign and are quite common. They can vary in color, shape, and size and may be present at birth or develop later in life.

While most iris nevi are harmless, a small percentage can change over time. These changes can include growth, alteration in color, or the development of new features. Because of this potential for change, regular ophthalmological examinations are recommended for individuals with iris nevi. An eye doctor can monitor the nevus for any signs of abnormality, such as changes that might indicate a malignancy, though this is rare.

Diagnosis of an iris nevus is typically made during a routine eye examination using specialized equipment like a slit lamp. Further imaging techniques may be employed if there are concerns about the nevus's characteristics. Treatment is usually not required unless the nevus causes visual disturbances or exhibits concerning changes that warrant further investigation or removal. The presence of an iris nevus generally does not affect vision.
