Planned economies, also known as command economies, are characterized by government ownership of the means of production and a centrally planned system. Mixed economies are characterized by a combination of private and government ownership of the means of production. The role of the government in the economy can also vary. In a free market economy, the government plays a minimal role, while in a regulated market economy, the government plays a more significant role in regulating the economy.
