The Ionotrichaceae family consists of approximately 50 species distributed across six genera: Cylindrocystis, Ionotrucha, Oogamia, Pilatusia, Pseudionotrucha, and Tricopianthus. These algae have been identified in aquatic environments worldwide, including ponds, lakes, and rivers, as well as in soil and on decomposing plant material.
