Ioniseerituid, also known as ionization energy, is a fundamental concept in chemistry and physics that refers to the energy required to remove an electron from an atom or ion in its gaseous state. This energy is typically measured in electron volts (eV) or kilojoules per mole (kJ/mol). The ionization energy of an element increases across a period in the periodic table and decreases down a group. This trend is due to the increasing nuclear charge and decreasing atomic radius across a period, and the opposite trends down a group.

The first ionization energy is the energy required to remove the first electron from a neutral atom. Subsequent ionization energies refer to the energy required to remove additional electrons from the resulting ions. For example, the second ionization energy is the energy required to remove an electron from a singly charged ion.
