Ioniläpäisy
Ioniläpäisy refers to the process by which ions move across a biological membrane. This movement is crucial for a variety of cellular functions, including nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and nutrient transport. Membranes are selectively permeable, meaning they allow some substances to pass through while restricting others. Ions, being charged particles, generally cannot freely diffuse across the lipid bilayer of a cell membrane due to its hydrophobic nature. Instead, their passage is facilitated by specific membrane proteins, such as ion channels and ion transporters.
Ion channels are pore-forming proteins that create a hydrophilic pathway for specific ions to cross the membrane.
