Invocato

Invocato is the past participle of the Italian verb invocare, meaning to call upon, appeal to, or invoke. As an adjective, invocato describes something that has been invoked or appealed to, such as a rule, authority, or deity. It is used mainly in formal, legal or theological writing.

Etymology: invocato derives from Latin invocatus, the past participle of vocare, “to call.” The word preserves the sense of calling upon or appealing to a person, power, or principle.

Usage: In religious contexts, invocare refers to calling upon a divine power, blessing, or protection, and invocato can modify the object of invocation, for example “la norma invocata dal ricorrente” or “le invocazioni dei fedeli.” In legal documents, the expression “la norma invocata” or “il diritto invocato” denotes the rule or principle that the party relies on before a court.

Morphology and notes: invocato agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies (invocato, invocata, invocati, invocate). The auxiliary used in compound tenses is avere (ho invocato). The word is often confused with avvocato, which means lawyer, but they have different origins and meanings.
