Inujima

Inujima is a small island located in the Seto Inland Sea, part of Okayama Prefecture, Japan. Historically, the island was known for its copper refinery, which operated from 1909 to 1917. The remnants of this industrial past, including a large stone refinery building, are still visible today and have become a significant feature of the island's landscape.

In recent years, Inujima has undergone a remarkable transformation into an art island. The ruins of the copper refinery have been redeveloped as the Inujima Art House Project, designed by the architect Hiroshi Sambuichi. This project integrates contemporary art installations within the preserved industrial structures, creating a unique and immersive experience for visitors. Several former residences on the island have also been converted into art spaces, showcasing a variety of artworks by Japanese and international artists.

The island offers a serene atmosphere, contrasting sharply with its industrial heritage.
