Interszekciós

Interszekciós is a term that has emerged in discussions around social justice and activism, particularly within intersectional feminist theory. It refers to the complex and overlapping nature of social categorizations such as race, gender, class, sexual orientation, disability, and others. These categories, when combined, create unique experiences of discrimination and privilege for individuals. The concept posits that these various social identities do not exist independently but rather interact and shape one another, leading to distinct forms of oppression or advantage. For example, a Black woman may experience discrimination not just as a woman or as a Black person, but as a Black woman, with the intersection of these identities creating a specific set of challenges and disadvantages that differ from those faced by white women or Black men. Understanding intersekciós is crucial for developing more nuanced and effective strategies for social change, as it highlights the need to address the multiple and interlocking systems of power and oppression that affect individuals.
