Internetfüggség

Internetfüggőség, also known as internet addiction disorder or problematic internet use, is a behavioral addiction characterized by the excessive and compulsive use of the internet, leading to significant impairment in daily functioning. This condition is not yet formally recognized as a distinct diagnosis in major psychiatric manuals like the DSM-5, but it is widely discussed and researched within the psychological community.

The symptoms of internet addiction can manifest in various ways, including spending an inordinate amount of time online, neglecting responsibilities such as work, school, or social relationships, experiencing withdrawal symptoms like irritability or anxiety when unable to access the internet, and continuing excessive use despite negative consequences. Individuals may engage in activities like online gaming, social networking, online shopping, or excessive information seeking.

The causes of internet addiction are believed to be multifaceted, potentially involving psychological factors such as pre-existing mental health conditions like depression or anxiety, a need for social connection or escape, and personality traits like impulsivity. Biological factors and the inherent design of online platforms that are engineered to be engaging and rewarding may also play a role.

Treatment for internet addiction often involves a combination of approaches. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is frequently used to help individuals identify and modify the thoughts and behaviors associated with their excessive internet use. Support groups and family therapy can also be beneficial. The goal of treatment is to help individuals develop healthier coping mechanisms and establish a balanced relationship with technology.
