Integrationskapacitet is a concept used to describe the capacity of a system to absorb and integrate external elements—such as people, technologies, or processes—without compromising its stability or performance. It is applicable across domains, including social policy, urban planning, and information technology.

In social policy and migration studies, the term is often used to assess a society’s ability to integrate newcomers. It encompasses the strength of institutions, social cohesion, and equal access to services, housing, education, and employment. Good integrational capacity supports inclusion and reduces tensions arising from change.

Common indicators in this area include employment rates among immigrants, language proficiency, educational attainment, health care access, and levels of discrimination or social exclusion. These measures help policymakers gauge progress and identify barriers to successful integration.

In organizational and information-technology contexts, integration capacity refers to a platform’s readiness to connect with other systems, data sources, or applications. It depends on modular architecture, interoperable standards, robust APIs, data governance, and security. Technical readiness is complemented by governance practices and clear roadmaps for data exchange and interoperability.

Measurement combines technical metrics—uptime, API coverage, data quality—with social metrics such as participation and trust in institutions. Enhancing integrational capacity often involves policy measures like investment in language and education, anti-discrimination enforcement, and inclusive labor-market programs in social contexts; and in IT, adopting open standards, strong governance, versioning, and scalable integration patterns.

Criticism notes that capacity alone does not guarantee successful integration; social and political will, power dynamics, and resource allocation strongly influence outcomes.
