Inloppstrycket

Inloppstrycket is the pressure at the inlet boundary of a component or system where fluid enters. It is a fundamental parameter in fluid dynamics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and turbomachinery, used as a boundary condition to determine flow and performance. Inloppstrycket can be specified as absolute pressure (Pabs) or gauge pressure (Pgauge), the latter being measured relative to atmospheric pressure.

The inlet pressure is linked to the outlet pressure through the pressure drop across a device, along with the flow rate and the fluid’s properties. Incompressible-flow approximations use the pressure difference to relate head losses, velocity, and energy. For compressible flows, density changes must be considered, and the relationship becomes more complex. In engineering practice, accurate knowledge of the inlet pressure is essential for predicting performance and preventing issues such as cavitation in pumps or compressors.

Measurement and units: Inloppstrycket is typically measured with pressure sensors, transducers, manometers, or other devices. It may be reported in absolute terms (pascals, kilopascals, bar) or in gauge terms (bar or psi), depending on whether atmospheric pressure is included. Elevation and hydrostatic head can affect the actual inlet pressure at a location within a system.

Applications: Inloppstrycket is relevant in piping networks, pumps and turbines, HVAC systems, fuel and air intake systems, and any scenario where the entry conditions of a fluid influence performance or safety. Maintaining appropriate inlet pressure helps ensure sufficient flow, efficiency, and protection against issues like cavitation or inadequate suction.
