Inkubaatoritel, or incubators, are devices designed to provide a controlled environment for the development of young animals, particularly poultry. They are used to hatch eggs artificially when natural incubation by a mother hen is not possible or desired. The primary function of an incubator is to maintain optimal conditions for embryonic development, including precise temperature, humidity, and ventilation.

Incubators vary widely in complexity and capacity, from small, manually operated units for hobbyists to large, commercial machines capable of holding thousands of eggs. The temperature within an incubator is critical and typically maintained at a specific range, usually around 37.5 degrees Celsius (99.5 degrees Fahrenheit) for chicken eggs, though this can vary slightly depending on the species. Humidity levels are also crucial, as they prevent the egg from drying out too rapidly while allowing for sufficient moisture loss for proper chick development. Proper air exchange is necessary to supply oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

Many modern incubators also incorporate automatic egg turning mechanisms. Turning the eggs periodically is essential to prevent the embryo from sticking to the shell membrane, which can lead to deformities or death. Some advanced incubators can also monitor and adjust humidity and temperature automatically, minimizing the need for manual intervention.
