Injeksjonsenhetene, commonly referred to as injection units, are critical components in internal combustion engines that are responsible for delivering fuel into the combustion chamber. In gasoline engines, these units are part of the fuel injection system, which can be either single-point or multi-point. Single-point injection systems typically use one injector to supply fuel to the intake manifold, while multi-point systems employ an injector for each cylinder, placing the fuel closer to the intake valve. In diesel engines, injection units are a core part of the diesel injection system, which is designed to inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber under very high pressure.

The primary function of an injection unit is to atomize the fuel and inject it at precisely the right moment and in the correct quantity to ensure efficient combustion. This precise control contributes to optimal engine performance, fuel economy, and reduced emissions. The design and operation of injection units vary significantly between gasoline and diesel engines, reflecting the different combustion processes and fuel types. For gasoline engines, electronic fuel injection (EFI) systems have largely replaced older carburetor technology due to their superior control and efficiency. Diesel injection units, such as those found in common rail systems or unit injector systems, are engineered to withstand extremely high pressures and deliver fuel with exceptional accuracy.
