Inhibitoreja

Inhibitoreja, Basque for inhibitors, refers to substances that reduce or block biological activity by interacting with biomolecules such as enzymes, receptors, or ion channels. In pharmacology and biochemistry, inhibitors can act reversibly or irreversibly, and their activity may be concentration-dependent. They are used both as research tools to dissect biochemical pathways and as therapeutic agents to modulate disease-related processes.

Major classes include enzyme inhibitors (which slow or stop enzyme-catalyzed reactions) and receptor or pathway inhibitors (which prevent signal transmission). Enzyme inhibitors are often categorized by mechanism: competitive inhibitors bind the active site; noncompetitive inhibitors bind elsewhere; uncompetitive inhibitors bind only when substrate is bound; and mixed-type inhibitors combine features.
