Inhibitiooni
Inhibitiooni is the term used to describe the act or process of hindering, restraining, or preventing a function, reaction, or growth across biological, chemical, and behavioral systems. It denotes mechanisms that reduce activity rather than completely stopping it. In biology and neuroscience, inhibition refers to the suppression of cellular activity, often at synapses. Inhibitory neurotransmitters such as GABA open channels that hyperpolarize neurons, producing inhibitory postsynaptic potentials and reducing the likelihood of action potentials. In chemistry and biochemistry, enzyme inhibition describes how molecules decrease enzyme activity. Inhibitors can be competitive, binding at the active site, or non-competitive, binding elsewhere, or cause irreversible changes. Feedback inhibition, where a product inhibits an earlier step, helps regulate metabolic pathways.
In psychology and cognitive science, inhibitory control is the ability to suppress impulsive responses in favor
