Infuosiomäskäyksessä is a Finnish science‑fiction web series that premiered on YouTube in August 2019. The title, a coined Finnish compound, loosely translates to “Under the Infusion” and alludes to the series’ central premise of a government‑run biotechnological initiative that has unintended side effects on the population. The series was created, written and directed by Tuomas Paltaniemi and produced by the independent studio Hyperion Media in collaboration with the Finnish Television Lab.

The narrative follows Livia, a young biotech researcher, who discovers that the nationwide infusion program is altering human cognition and memory. She joins a covert group of whistleblowers who aim to expose the truth while navigating a surveillance state. Infuosiomäskäyksessä blends investigative thriller elements with speculative commentary on cyber‑surveillance and bioethics. The production features live‑action footage intercut with 3D‑animated data visualisations, giving it a distinct aesthetic that has been compared to the works of Ridley Scott and the BBC’s Doctor Who.

The series quickly gained a cult following in Finland and online communities, with its first season accumulating more than 3 million views within six months. Critics praised its tight pacing, strong script, and thoughtful exploration of contemporary techno‑political concerns. The show received the 2020 Kaleva Award for Best Online Drama and was shortlisted for the European Television Festival’s Best Short‑Format Program category.

Infuosiomäskäyksessä spurred academic discussions on the ethics of biotechnological interventions and inspired a number of fan‑created resources such as alternate‑timeline fan fiction and community‑produced explanatory guides. Its influence has extended beyond Finnish borders, with a Swedish dubbed version released on the streaming platform Viaplay in 2021.
