Infogrames

Infogrames was a French video game company founded in 1983 by Bruno Bonnell and Christophe Sapet. It began as a small distributor of software and hardware before expanding into game development and publishing. The company experienced significant growth in the late 1990s and early 2000s, acquiring several other studios, including GT Interactive, Gremlin Interactive, and Microïds.

Infogrames developed and published a wide range of video games across various platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Game Boy. Some of its notable titles include the Alone in the Dark series, the Driver series (acquired from GT Interactive), and numerous licensed games based on popular movies and TV shows. The company also diversified into other areas, such as educational software and interactive toys.

In 2003, Infogrames acquired Atari, Inc., the American subsidiary of Atari SA, and subsequently rebranded its operations under the Atari name. This led to Infogrames Entertainment SA becoming the parent company of the Atari brand. The company continued to operate for several years, but faced financial difficulties and restructuring. In 2009, Infogrames Entertainment SA officially changed its name to Atari SA, effectively retiring the Infogrames brand from its corporate identity. While the Infogrames name as a publishing entity largely ceased to exist, its legacy is intertwined with the history of the Atari brand and the evolution of the video game industry.
