Inflationsbekämpning refers to the measures taken by governments and central banks to control and reduce the rate of inflation within an economy. Inflation, the sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services, erodes purchasing power and can lead to economic instability if left unchecked.

The primary responsibility for inflationsbekämpning typically lies with the central bank, which uses monetary policy tools. The most common tool is adjusting interest rates. By raising interest rates, borrowing becomes more expensive, which tends to reduce consumer spending and business investment, thereby cooling down demand and easing inflationary pressures. Central banks can also influence the money supply through open market operations, buying or selling government securities. Selling securities withdraws money from circulation, tightening credit conditions and potentially curbing inflation. Other measures include setting reserve requirements for banks, which dictate the amount of money banks must hold in reserve, influencing their ability to lend.

Fiscal policy, implemented by the government, also plays a role in inflationsbekämpning. This involves adjusting government spending and taxation. Reducing government expenditure or increasing taxes can decrease aggregate demand, helping to control inflation. Conversely, expansionary fiscal policy, such as increased spending or tax cuts, can fuel inflation.
