Infallsvinkeln

Infallsvinkeln, often translated as the angle of incidence, is a fundamental concept in optics and physics that describes the angle at which a ray of light or other wave strikes a surface. It is defined as the angle between the incoming ray and the normal to the surface at the point of incidence. The normal is an imaginary line that is perpendicular to the surface at that specific point.

When light strikes a surface, it can be reflected, refracted, or absorbed. The angle of incidence plays a crucial role in determining the behavior of the light. According to the law of reflection, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection, meaning the angle at which the light bounces off the surface is the same as the angle at which it hit it, with both angles measured relative to the normal.

In the case of refraction, where light passes from one medium to another and changes direction, the angle of incidence is related to the angle of refraction by Snell's Law. This law quantifies how much the light bends based on the refractive indices of the two media and the angle of incidence. Understanding the angle of incidence is therefore essential for analyzing and predicting phenomena such as how lenses focus light, how prisms disperse light into a spectrum, and how everyday objects appear to us through the interaction of light and surfaces.
