Industriekeramik, also known as technical ceramics or advanced ceramics, refers to a specialized group of ceramic materials engineered for demanding industrial applications. Unlike traditional ceramics used in pottery or construction, industriekeramik possesses superior mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical properties. These properties are achieved through precise control of composition, microstructure, and processing.

Key characteristics of industriekeramik include exceptional hardness, high strength at elevated temperatures, excellent wear and corrosion resistance, and good electrical insulation or conductivity depending on the specific material. Common examples include alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride. The production process often involves powder metallurgy techniques such as pressing, extrusion, and sintering at high temperatures.

Industriekeramik finds widespread use across various sectors. In the automotive industry, it is employed in engine components, brake discs, and sensors due to its heat resistance and durability. The aerospace sector utilizes it for turbine blades and heat shields. Electronics benefit from its insulating properties in substrates and components, while the chemical industry uses it for pump parts and seals that can withstand corrosive environments. Its resistance to wear also makes it suitable for cutting tools and bearings. Despite their high performance, industriekeramik can be brittle, which is a primary challenge in their design and application.
