Induktiosilmukoiden

Induktiosilmukoiden, also known as induction loops or hearing loops, are an assistive listening system. They work by transmitting an audio signal directly to a hearing aid or cochlear implant that has a telecoil setting. This bypasses the ambient noise in a room, providing a clearer and more understandable sound for the user.

The system consists of a microphone that picks up the desired audio, an amplifier that boosts the signal, and a loop of wire installed around the perimeter of an area, such as a church, lecture hall, or public counter. This loop creates a magnetic field that carries the audio signal. Hearing aids equipped with a telecoil can then pick up this magnetic signal, converting it back into sound that is delivered directly to the ear.

Induction loops are beneficial in reducing background noise and reverberation, which can significantly impair hearing for individuals with hearing loss. They are commonly found in public places to enhance accessibility. Users typically need to switch their hearing aid to the 'T' or 'MT' position to engage the telecoil and receive the looped signal. The 'MT' position allows for switching between the telecoil and the hearing aid's microphone.
