IndoEuropeanists are scholars who study the Indo-European languages and their hypothetical ancestor language, Proto-Indo-European. This field of study, known as Indo-European linguistics or Indo-European studies, seeks to reconstruct the vocabulary, grammar, and phonology of this ancient language and to understand the relationships between the many languages that descend from it. These languages include most of the modern languages of Europe, as well as many in Iran and South Asia, such as English, Spanish, Russian, Hindi, and Persian.
