Indigenouscentric refers to an approach or perspective that centers Indigenous peoples, their knowledge systems, cultures, and experiences. It involves prioritizing Indigenous voices, values, and self-determination in various contexts, including education, research, policy-making, and community development. This perspective challenges colonial frameworks and aims to decolonize institutions and practices by recognizing and valuing Indigenous worldviews as valid and essential.

An Indigenouscentric approach seeks to rectify historical injustices and systemic inequities by ensuring that Indigenous peoples have agency and control over matters that affect them. It emphasizes collaboration with Indigenous communities, respecting their protocols and governance structures. Rather than integrating Indigenous elements into existing non-Indigenous frameworks, an Indigenouscentric model places Indigenous frameworks at the core. This can manifest in curriculum development that prioritizes Indigenous histories and languages, research methodologies that are guided by Indigenous ethics, or resource management that respects traditional ecological knowledge. The ultimate goal is to foster equitable relationships and empower Indigenous communities to thrive on their own terms.
