Indefinues

Indefinues is a term used in speculative philosophy and fiction to describe entities whose essential properties cannot be definitively specified within a given system. The concept encompasses beings or objects that resist fixed categorization because attempts to define them produce further ambiguities, paradoxes, or context-dependent outcomes. As a result, indefinues are often treated as existing at the boundary between determination and indeterminacy.

Etymology and scope. The word derives from the Latin indefinitus, meaning not defined. In English discussion, the plural indefinues is used to refer to the class as a whole. The term is typically applied in theoretical contexts rather than as a description of empirically verified phenomena, and it is sometimes used to illuminate limits of classification in ontology, semantics, and epistemology.

Characteristics. Indefinues are characterized by indeterminate extension across identity, state, and form. They may change or blur their properties depending on perspective, context, or measurement.
