Impliserer

Impliserer is a Danish verb meaning to imply or to entail. In everyday Danish it is used when one statement indicates a consequence that follows from another, often without being stated explicitly. In logic and formal discourse, impliserer denotes the implication relation between two propositions and is commonly rendered with the symbol →. If P and Q are propositions, P impliserer Q expresses that Q is a logical consequence of P within the applicable context.

In classical (material) logic, the statement P impliserer Q is considered true in all cases except when P is true and Q is false. Equivalently, P impliserer Q is logically equivalent to the expression ¬P ∨ Q; that is, P → Q. In Danish technical writing, the noun form is implikation, and the topic is treated under logic or mathematics.

The term is distinct from linguistic notions of indirect meaning. While impliserer in a logical sense deals with necessary or sufficient conditions linking propositions, ordinary language uses can convey practical implications or rhetorical suggestiveness without strict logical entailment. In linguistics, related ideas include implicature for meaning that is suggested rather than explicitly stated, which is a separate concept from logical implication.
