Impedance itself is a measure of the opposition to alternating current (AC) flow, encompassing both resistance and reactance. Reactance, in turn, is the opposition to AC flow due to capacitance and inductance.

Different components exhibit distinct impedance characteristics. For example, a purely resistive component has an impedance that is constant across all frequencies.
