However, the use of immunosuppressants comes with significant risks. A weakened immune system makes individuals more susceptible to infections, including bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens. There is also an increased risk of developing certain types of cancer, as the immune system normally plays a role in detecting and eliminating cancerous cells. Therefore, patients on immunosuppressive therapy require close monitoring by healthcare professionals to manage these potential side effects and ensure the medications are used effectively and safely.
