Imfolozi

iMfolozi refers to the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This park is the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa, established in 1895. It is a combination of two formerly separate reserves, the Hluhluwe Game Reserve and the iMfolozi Game Reserve, which were merged in 1989. The park is renowned for its conservation efforts, particularly its success in breeding the white rhinoceros.

The iMfolozi section of the park is particularly known for its role in white rhino conservation. Operation Rhino, initiated in the 1960s, was a highly successful program aimed at saving the species from extinction. Today, the park is home to a significant population of both white and black rhinos, making it a prime location for viewing these endangered animals.

Beyond rhinos, iMfolozi supports a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, wild dogs, and numerous bird species. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and riverine forests, offering varied habitats for its inhabitants.
