Imagefootage

Imagefootage is a term used to describe video content created primarily from still images rather than continuous motion video. In practice, imagefootage mixes photographs, paintings, or other fixed images into a moving sequence by applying motion effects, transitions, and timing to create the impression of movement.

Common techniques include the Ken Burns pan and zoom effect, crossfades between frames, timed panning across a set of images, and 2.5D parallax effects that separate image layers to simulate depth. These methods allow a narrative or documentary style when shot footage is unavailable.

Applications include documentary storytelling, educational videos, music videos, archival projects, and corporate slideshows. Imagefootage is also used for retro or stylistic looks, or to illustrate data and concepts when stock video is scarce or expensive.

Technical considerations include color and exposure matching across images, resolution and aspect ratio consistency, frame rate when exporting, and adding motion to avoid a static feel. Sound design and narration are often used to provide continuity.

Licensing and ethics are important because the images may be sourced from stock libraries or user-provided photos. Proper attribution, model releases where applicable, and adherence to license terms are required when producing imagefootage for distribution.
